Data Users Note: Lunar maps available from NSSDC

    Get PDF
The types of maps available from the National Space Science Data Center/World Data Center A for Rockets and Satellites for the support of lunar and comparative planetology scientific investigations are identified and described. Information on other sources of maps useful to planetologists is included. The maps are listed according to increased map scale. Parameters given include the name, scale, date of edition, the four corner coordinates of each maps, and the NSSDC ID

Intimate Partner Violence: Providing Resources to Patients and Facilitating Understanding

    Get PDF
Intimate Partner Violence is defined as physical violence, emotional violence, sexual violence, psychological aggression and stalking against a current or former partner. High volume primary care offices like UVMHN Berlin Family Medicine address primarily medical concerns of patients. While this includes mental health, IPV is infrequently a part of doctor-patient interactions. This project assesses available data on IPV nationally and in Vermont. It aims to understand how IPV is currently addressed, recommendations regarding addressing it and provides resources to patients.https://scholarworks.uvm.edu/fmclerk/1192/thumbnail.jp

Bridging Generation Y: A Commentary on the Financial Development of Young Adults in the New Millennium

    Get PDF
In this thesis, I will explore beneficial financial literacy standards that should be applied to Generation Y students and will attempt to explain why all of them are truly vital for financial survival or overall well-being in this new Millennium. Through this commentary, I will develop a pyramid containing six fundamental rules that will assist with one’s financial future. Thirdly, I will create a basic website that will act as a technological module to help with the overall education of the site’s viewers; on it, there will be the six rules formatted as a pyramid and a compilation of resources to help the viewer out with basic finance. Through all of these parts, it is my hope that I help facilitate and create the desire within an individual to learn all that they can in order to help their future and prevent minor financial mishaps

The effects of radar on avian behavior: Implications for wildlife management at airports

    Get PDF
Airports are areas with a high availability of resources for wildlife to forage, breed, and roost. Airports also have different types of radars to assist with air traffic control as well as tracking of wildlife that could become a risk for aircraft. The effect of radar electromagnetic radiation on wildlife behavior is not well understood. The goal of this study was to determine if bird behavior is affected by radar in two contexts: static radar (e.g., surveillance radar) and approaching radar (e.g., aircraft weather radar). We used brown-headed cowbirds as a model species. In the static radar context, we performed two separate studies. In the first study, we found some indication of changes in vigilance and movement behaviors during and after exposure to static radar. In the second study, we also found that static radar increased movement behaviors. In the approaching radar context, we found that birds exposed to an approaching vehicle with radar showed earlier escape responses and flights that dodged sideways more than without radar. Taking these findings together, we suggest that birds may move to avoid static radar units, and moving radar units (as in aircraft) could enhance escape responses so that birds would be more likely to escape from vehicles like aircraft at low speeds during taxi, but likely not at the higher speeds during take-off, landing, and flight

Standing Swells Surveyed Showing Surprisingly Stable Solutions for the Lorenz '96 Model

The Lorenz '96 model is an adjustable dimension system of ODEs exhibiting chaotic behavior representative of dynamics observed in the Earth's atmosphere. In the present study, we characterize statistical properties of the chaotic dynamics while varying the degrees of freedom and the forcing. Tuning the dimensionality of the system, we find regions of parameter space with surprising stability in the form of standing waves traveling amongst the slow oscillators. The boundaries of these stable regions fluctuate regularly with the number of slow oscillators. These results demonstrate hidden order in the Lorenz '96 system, strengthening the evidence for its role as a hallmark representative of nonlinear dynamical behavior.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figure

The Need for Effective Early Behavioral Family Interventions for Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

    Get PDF
There is a pressing need for the development of effective early family intervention programs for children showing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) behaviours with Conduct Disorder (CD) or Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) behaviours. Previous research has indicated that children with ADHD are at risk of developing comorbid CD or ODD behaviours. In addition, it has been shown that ODD or CD behaviours in childhood tend to persist and to have adverse effects on later social adjustment. However, ODD or CD behaviours are not necessary concomitants of ADHD, and it has been demonstrated that behavioural intervention can have both short- and long term beneficial effects for children showing early signs of ODD or CD behaviours. In short term, behavioural family interventions may be able to reduce oppositional behaviour, particularly in the preschool years. In the long term, early intervention has shown to reduce the incidence of later antisocial behaviour in children at risk for this developmental trajectory. In this paper, it will be argued that behavioural family interventions have not been effectively utilised or promulgated in the community for children with ADHD despite the demonstrated efficacy of these types of interventions. A model of a multilevel system of intervention that can be tailored to the individual family’s needs is presented
